FAQs

Q: When are the markets open?

A: The markets run from the last week in April until the end of October

Opening night for 2008 is April 24th

The market is open on Thursday from 5pm-10 pm and Sunday4pm to 9pm

 

Q: How do I get to the markets?

A: The markets are located within a 15-20 walk from the city

Shuttle buses pick up at a regular basis from major hotels

A taxi from the city will cost approx $10.00

Public buses connect the markets to the City and Northern Suburbs (click on the picture to access route maps and time tables). Bus number 4 goes directly to Mindil Market.

Q: Is there parking available at the market?

A: Yes there is parking at the markets at no cost

 

Q: Do you have chairs and tables?

A: Tables and chairs are spread throughout the grassed areas - if you want to hire tables and chairs please see the information booth.

 

Q: Can I buy alcohol at the markets?

A: No - but you can bring your own alcohol and ice is available at Mindil

You can also rent tables and chairs and enjoy a drink in comfort as so many patrons do

 

Q: How can I find a particular stallholder? Or information on how I can contact them?

Q: Can I bring my dog or pet to the market?
A: Due to food and hygiene regulations we do not permit animals in the market

 

Q: Are there facilities for people with different abilities?
A: Disabled parking is available and while access around the market is no problem there is no direct wheelchair access to the beach.

 

Q: What do I do if I require first aid?

A: We have St John Ambulance volunteers at the markets and the information booth also have afirst aid kit

 

Q: What do I do if I wish to complain about something or share my experience of the market?
A: We would love to hear form you whatever the situation. The preferred method of communication is via email admin@mindil.com.au or by going in to our forum and leaving a message

 

Q: Does the market operate if it is raining?
A: Unfortunately due to health and safety the market does not operate when raining. If a market is called off press releases are sent to all media. If it starts raining after the start of the market, announcements will be made to that effect.

 

Q: What do I do if I’ve become separated from my kids?
A: All staff at the markets are connected by two-way radios. The first thing to do is seek help from our staff, our security staff, or come to the information booth. Found children are kept at the Information booth and cared for until reunited with parents

A: We have a lost and found register at the information booth. For information on lost and found items, outside

Q: When is the best time of year to come?
A: The market only operates in the dry season, so anytime is beautiful

 

Q: How many stalls are there?

A: There are approx 60 food stalls and 190 craft stalls at the Thursday market

 

Q: Is the market actually on the beach?

A: No, the market is set up on the service road that runs parallel the beach. Between the beach and the stalls is a grassed area where people set up their tables and chairs.

 

Q: What kind of food is sold there?

A:There are over 25 cuisines from virtually every continent. Ie Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Sri Lankan, Indian, African, Mexican, Pilipino, Malaysian to name a few. Please see the information booth if you have any particular dietary needs, we have Halal, vegetarian stalls

 

Q: What kind of craft is sold?

A: There are a variety of self made jewellery, clothing and craft. Many artists use locally sourced materials

 

Q: What time is the sunset?
A: Sunset during the dry is approx 6.30pm

 

Q: What kind of entertainment is there for kids?
A: The markets have a variety of ways to keep the kids amused. Pony rides, petting zoo, laughing clowns, jumping castle with some great music and acts for the children’s entertainment and a beautiful beach by the Arafura sea

 

Q: Are the Thursday and Sunday markets the same?
A: The Thursday market is the big one with Sunday being renowned for being a bit more laid back, family oriented afternoon
